and Curriculum Selection
Dear Union Brothers and Sisters,
Great
News! On Friday, September 22, I met with the Trustees of the Training and
Development Trust Fund and presented your ideas to them.
The Trustees
unanimously approved the two proposals as outlined:
- Allow apprentices to attend the college of their choice.
- Allow apprentices the option of continuing in the current Technical Trade
Programs at Macomb/Henry Ford Community Colleges or the opportunity to pursue
an Associates Degree in an Electrical Curriculum.
The agreement was
made with
the stipulation that you must submit an Educational Plan with
supporting documentation for approvalshould you choose a college
and/or curriculum other than the Macomb or Henry Ford Community College
Programs. The plan must be provided to me with sufficient time allotted for
review and approval, as well as the scheduling of your classes. We all have
witnessed significant improvements to the training program over the last couple
of months as it continues to be a work in progress. The innovative ideas being
communicated from our members to the union leadership and management are great
examples of partnering for the long-term benefit of everyone. With the continued
effort and support of all the parties, I sincerely believe that our training
program will eventually become the “desired state” for Utility Unions and
Companies.
